The 'I'
“Love you” and “I love you” are not the same.
Although they paint a similar frame,
there’s rules that come before you proclaim.
One says “goodbye” in two words or fewer.
The other paints a sky of a hopeful future,
praying they’ll see their loved one sooner.
How could one word, one letter change the meaning?
Shift a darkened heart from dismal to gleaming,
giving it a sense of underserved redeeming.
That small stroke can alter relationships,
taking one on a voyage or trip,
that causes one’s heart to endlessly skip.
Choose your words wisely, but say what you mean.
There’s nothing worse than not knowing what lies between.
But be aware that what’s next has not been seen,
so don’t say the “I” if you don’t want to intervene.
