The Last Breath
It was the last breath of fresh air
That this old planet had in store
It lingered in a cypress swamp
Where once there was a trillion more
Now fresh air was all recycled
Through new cars and old factories
And humans all wore breathing masks
That were never in histories
It happened there was a gator
That searched for a young mate somewhere
He raised his snout above the swamp
And took a deep, deep breath of air
He let it out in a bellow
A mating call roared out above
And with that last breath of fresh air
Some female gator fell in love
