The Oak and the Pine
Like the oak, standing tall
Among the pines and juniper trees,
She remains strong – never releasing a tear,
Always prepared to reassure her kids,
Sooth and encourage, whisper
Hope into the prayers that will not fade,
Prayers for the moments – one at a time,
The passage of a life, the passing of light
She only cries after the sun has departed
And her heart remembers – his light
Touching her soul, a soft glow
Inspiring her to hope, to know
The embrace of kindness, the gentling
Inspiring her love – so much love
Where does it go now that he’s gone?
Into a song, she sings softly – steady
Like the oak, still focused on being strong
Promising the dreams to keep believing,
Promising the world to keep on singing.
She is her own version of motivation,
The wonder of a blazing flame – never afraid,
Here on earth, her heart still beats in spite of the pain,
The ache that trembles down her spine
And drives out the dream where they were one,
Two hearts, two souls, clinging to the past
Regretting the losses and remembering the joys
Delighting in the moments, the tenderness
The life they designed with sensitivity to the light
Light that comes to life in the heart who sees
Through the darkest shadows, into the rays of pure
Grace, pure faith, pure love that eclipses
Every darkness with its breathless promise …
To love without regretting, never forgetting
Once upon a time, he was here
Alive, telling of the light – revealing the elation
That comes from listening to the voice
That tender voice falling from heaven, where
He is now alive with the angels –
Yes, he is with the angels… and she is smiling
Through the tears that remember him,
Forever with her – in spirit, forever she remembers
His light pouring out love over her spirit,
Love like a whisper, intense yet gentle, the softest
Disclosure of serenity so sincere and endlessly
Echoing in her mind, her heart, her spirit …
Like the oak, standing tall through it all,
Only the dewlike tears of night
Remind her that she’s still merely a pine…
All soft inside
