The Old Man
Have you ever looked at an old man,
and wondered what he was like
on that very first day,
on that very first night?
Did you ever try to erase
an old man's destiny
by painting in your mind
the color his hair used to be?
Did you ever look beyond those wrinkles
and wonder what his smile was like
on that first Christmas Eve
when he was a little tyke?
What does he think about
now that he's grown old?
Are his days like tarnished silver,
or are they of purest gold?
Does he worry about his future?
Does he know about God's Son?
Where will he be tomorrow
when the day is done?
