The Orchid
As, when the sun does reach to heaven's height,
The sweet perfumèd orchid opens wide,
Inviting in Apollo's orb with pride,
Reflecting iridescent colors bright,
So I, responding to my loving knight,
Open my vulnerable heart with joy.
See how I trust you, brave companion boy,
Whose ardor's heat turns darkness into light.
My own belovèd, if you stay by me,
If you accept this flower, this my life,
You'll not know sorrow. I shall constant be,
And bring you peace and laughter, never strife.
I'll honor you with my soul's poetry
And be forever your devoted wife.
