The Question
Wide brown eyes
dominated her oblonged pale face,
She whose Job was daily
working with the almost dead.
She harbored her final question
to put to him she loved,
He, perhaps The One,
her Partner Perhaps.
And so she softly asked,
'When that time comes for me,
Would you, could you, help me die?'
Partner Perhaps stared at her,
seeming aghast or confused
by her cold cut to the ultimate ask.
A moment shredded the air
before he shook his head
and turned away.
When at the crossroads
of stay together or walk away,
The walk it was.
