The Smell of Those Who Care
I feel that sting of loneliness again
A bite goes deeper than others before
I feel I have always known that pain
It is a feeling all to familiar to me
I can taste the tang of bitterness,
A life that was never mine to own
My tongue has been here times before
I cannot seem to rinse my mouth clean
I hear envy burning in my ears
A part that longs for what I am not
Listening to my own shameless boasting
I cover my ears to protect myself
I can smell my fear, palpable
Scared of nothing I have not yet met
Pungent, clouding my judgment
Holding my nose, the stench inside
What I do not feel is the power within
I do not taste the love I have to give
I do not see the passion I have for all
Nor the smell of those who care
