They Lived Without Poetry
She liked Coleridge, the poet and the man.
He enjoyed Sidney Sheldon and Edgar Allan Poe
She was a Whitman and Emerson fan.
He liked her enthusiastic glow.
He thought words were silly.
He used them sparingly.
She recognized he was a dilly.
Flashing his assets caringly.
She offered to help him write
However, poetry was not his thing.
He saw her loveliness was out of sight
And decided to make himself her king
They agreed to share other things
Not books, for on that they did not agree
They lived happily, without strife or clings
For they gave each other freedom to simply be…..
