This Is the Child
This is the Child who came down from the Father,
Brought to the world in a manger filled with fodder;
This is the King who laid aside His splendour
To come to us, Embodied Grace, so tender.
A Smile thro' our tears, a Song thro' our pain,
A Hope in every valley, and a Rainbow in rain.
A Rest for our fears, a Light in the gloom,
The Joyful Celebration of the bride and the groom.
This is the heart that broke as He stopped breathing,
Torn all apart by the veil that stopped our seeing face to face
The beauty of our Lord.
This is the pow'r that cured our every sickness,
Brought sight to the blind, and offered us forgiveness.
This is the strength that bears our every burden,
The arms and hands and hold us when we're hurting.
Compassion and Love, a Shelter in Storm,
The Shepherd of the wand'ring, and a Hope to the worn.
The Joy from above, the Flowers of Spring,
A Father to the orphan, and a Reason to sing.
This is a Gift that never can diminish,
This is a work not ceasing 'till it's finished; jars of clay
That must pass thro' the fire.
Look at His face, the Babe who once was smiling
Now bears the mark of all the sin we're hiding.
Lashing His back, He bears the hate and anger;
Looking to me, He does not see a stranger:
He calls me His child, He calls me a son,
He died to make me holy, and lives to make us one.
The Break of the Dawn, a Hand on my Face,
The Lamb who came from heaven taking death in my place.
He is the Song that I can't keep from singing
For as long as I have breath and being, 'till I see
The One who longs for me.
This is the Child...
