Tiger Meets Her Match
Exotic peacock waltzes toward me, in full plumage
I smile, she is magnificent.
Smiling green orbs; I figure it is my friend Caroline.
No one else has those flaming chestnut curls she has not managed to hide.
“It’s wonderful!” she whispers to me as she floats by, on the arms of a handsome hunk.
He is dressed from head to knee in triple black,
His puma mask hiding secrets I want to unfurl.
There is something about his stance and his moves
That makes me want to grab him up and carry him off.
The music stops, and puma is coming toward me.
Our eyes lock. “Hello, Tiger,” he says, as we begin our dance.
I had forgotten which mask I was wearing until now.
I become a flamboyant, entertaining, full-fledged feline in his arms.
We become a twosome, this puma and this tiger.
Others try to cut in, so we dance out on the veranda,
Alone, devouring each other
With our eyes.
