“When there is nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire.”
–a line in a song performed by the Stars
When the river was empty, you moved on
I stayed, gaining nothing but age.
The days felt like decades wading through
the ash and dry cigarette butts;
our past flooded our once damp un-barren land
now dry as rock. My reality passed
then torment brought me to the edge of our trail
where the river turned back upon itself going nowhere
teaching me that time just needs time to forgive time
to take you back to at all that you know
now,
I just need a match.
