Together We Were Strong
TOGETHER WE WERE STRONG
I watched as she lay dying
Every day for two full weeks
But I failed to let the tears flow
And cause tear stains on my cheeks
Instead I told her I refuse
To mar your reputation
Although she couldn't respond
I knew she heard my recitation
For twenty years, we were one
Then suddenly, her life was done
But we were bonded for the duration
Now I await our separation
I never got to say good bye
Yet I knew that she must die
All hope is gone for her to live
While she still had so much to give
I must face life on my own
Knowing soon she will be gone
The peace I feel cannot be wrong
Because together, we were strong
