Unlawful Killing
A cry for help unheeded,
Hatred where love was needed.
The trees, the flowers, the river where you lay,
All have a story to tell, a part to play.
Promises slowly ebbing away,
A youthful gift, trapped, kept at bay.
It was nature in it’s fickle kindness,
That protected you in the wilderness.
The watching, whispering, rustling
Grows quietly sullen.
Cold skin, icy water over fading beauty,
Once full of life, a loving daughter,
Discarded, denied for the sake of duty.
A cry for help unheeded,
Hatred where love was needed.
I never knew you yet I am your mourner,
Another sacrifice given up to honour.
