Unrequited
Oh, but to hold that hand and share a gentle touch
as we walk at the end of another day together,
with the peace that comes with knowing that
the feeling's meant to last beyond this day,
perhaps forever
Oh, but to listen to that voice and share the joyful laughter
as we talk at the end of another day as two, become one,
with the gratitude that comes with knowing that
there will be more joy for us to follow,
with the rising of the sun
Oh, but to lie beside that body and share the warmth
as we sleep together at the end of another day in concert,
with the contentment that comes with knowing that
the soft symphony of our two hearts' will again,
on other nights be played
Oh, but to touch that heart and share the joy it holds
as I watch, confined nearby in this prison of friendship
with the sadness that comes with knowing that
the yearning that's ever growing in this heart of mine,
is unrequited
