Waiting for the snow to melt
As a snowy blanket descends over the city
I sit on a wooden bench,
Waiting patiently, watching
Snowflakes dancing and melting as they fall into my hand.
I feel your absence keenly,
As if I’m missing a vital limb.
We once thought love could turn the tide of the heavens and the earth,
That it could move the mountains and the seas,
Yet we were just a mortal couple,
A single snowflake in this stormy mirth
All destined to become water eventually,
Destined to flow apart like we have so painfully.
I’d promised to protect you forever,
To shield you with my heart.
I’d promised to never leave your side,
To take you, hand-in-hand
As we sailed the oceans of humanity together.
But when the sun’s rays broke the skyline
And all the snow gave way,
You left me for a better place, a brighter day.
Now I am left with just my memories,
Wispy remnants of your touch
And an empty aching heart,
Struggling to find devotion.
But still I sit on this bench, watching, waiting,
Remembering that although you are gone,
Our love nevertheless remains,
A unique fiery snowflake
Etched, deep into my veins.
