We Are Sitting On Our Bench
we are sitting on our bench
beside me the book
from which i read for her
Pablo Neruda's "And Now You Are Mine"
her hand rests upon mine
we both cover the book
now closed and still beneath
the park is in a silent afternoon
a calmness envelopes life
i turn into her gentle smile
return the happiness with my own
the stillness pervades
the joy in my heart
this moment when love has no words
needs none, the silent souls are one
the ecstasy of heaven to come
how does it feel like this love
it tastes like an endless forevermore
a robin hops across the landscape
life continues where time has halted
on a bench
a young couple walk by slowly
lost in each other
perchance God is gifting them
a quick look into their lives
where time will deposit them
years from now an elderly couple
sitting upon a bench
hands upon some book
silent and lost in another time
memories of long ago
when they came to the bench
where two souls found the path
to becoming one in the silence
where words are no longer
hands resting upon a book
the world in a heavenly serenity
where the fullness of life
is in the silent exchange of smiles
where love reigns without a word

And Now You're Mine - Pablo Neruda
Romantic poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings. Poetry to romantic poets is not a craft but an inspiration. The poet does not care for the perfection of form or clarity of expression. The romantic poets laid emphasis on imagination, inspiration, and emotion. It is the expression of the inner urges of the soul of the artist. The poet gives free expression to his feelings, emotions, experiences, thoughts, and ideas and does not care for rules and regulations. The emphasis is laid on inspiration and intuition.
