We Fools
Tonight, there is only I
Under my roof, and there is no moon,
Only the feeble attempt
Of clouds to illuminate the earth
(clouds never seem to learn,
that they do not shine on their own;
they really cannot make it alone)
Past the darkness, I see you.
Standing there on my lawn,
Outside my window, you
are the only thing I can make of tonight
But the darkness is blinding. I can only see you
Gazing up at the sky as you realize
The moon watches neither you nor I.
Would you tell me if it is raining?
I hear nothing, but it may just be me.
All I see are droplets of water past your cheek.
Do you cry? Or is it just me again.
If it is rain, then I hope it subsides...
Better yet, I hope you'd come inside.
My door is always open, and I have nothing to hide.
Tonight, we'll see what we could make of just candle light.
