Love Poem: What Do I Owe You

What Do I Owe You

What Do I Owe You?

What do I owe you, my lover, my friend?
If not truth, perhaps clarity, now life's near end,
Well, I'm trying my best to be good company,
And, as God is my witness, would not charge a fee
That's not likely to help you (if you’ll just engage
Both your heart and your brain?) Let me please, set the stage!

Say, “you're essential,” then don't let you in?
Or to fake, I love poems you wrote (though it's spin!)
Is it friendship to go to a movie for show?
Is it cricket to feign things that I do not know?
I might do things I don't like as long as we're square,
But pretending agreement? There's no there that's there!

Where is the love if new love has a cost?
How can you be a winner, you’ve already lost!
If you get what you’re paying for how can you feel
Any joy of discovery, much less conceal
That you’re not sure you really are worthy of it?
And can Grace save your hide if you’re sure your worth’s spit!
