When Hearts Do Glow
Tis the time when hearts do glow,
in winter’s grasp of ice and snow,
for cold outside ignites the fire,
melts the heart and strums the lyre.
Nature’s wrath is tenderness,
reminding man of all the bliss,
that can well come to those who find,
within another’s soul the blind,
and striving goals of quiet hearts,
who yearn for light and feel the darts,
of ignorance, cold, and darkened time,
that struggle to upset our rhyme.
But you, my dear, are winter’s foil,
worthy of all pain and toil,
that you can draw from my poor heart,
I’ll play my part, I’ll play my part.
For glacial mass can crush my dreams,
it has broken mountains into streams!
And my fire’s cold and cannot last,
without you it’ll soon be past.
But if I had your love so sweet,
I’d battle ice and taste defeat.
I’d fall to blades of frigid steel,
Though I’d be broken, I wouldn’t kneel.
For in your heart there would remain,
the piece of me that was most sane,
that loved you till the dying sun,
had planted feet and would not run.
