When Things Get Too Difficult
an innocent baby was born
a baby to love and to hold- a baby boy
who was a delight of smiling bubbles and gurgles
but as he grew it was evident he was different
he was diagnosed with brain damage from birth
and his life would be forever difficult and different
he will never hold a job- yet he is a reader
and reads quite mind boggling books and loves debates
though those talks are brief before he moves on to another
but what is missing is that thing that allows
us to cope in this world- he has no life skills
we, promised our mother on her death bed
that we the kids would always take care of this boy-man
and we will, oh yes no matter what happens
we are his safe place
when things get too difficult
