White Oaks and Willows

Iridescent feathers
flutter down
    as a silhouette
             passes overhead,
inquisitive
I bound over the landscape,
                              following.
I come upon a pond
   with two thirds of it
enshrouded by trees,
     white oaks and willows.

Near the edge
         of the woods
I see a pair of angelic wings
rising out of the water
        attached
             to a body
   that could
make one’s thoughts falter.
     White oaks and willows.

Elegant hands
      on sleek arms
reach up to preen
    her wings
with two inch nails
        perfect for slicing flesh.
Changing
   into my lupine form
I lope through the high grass
towards the forest,
     white oaks and willows.

Entering the lush,
    shadow coated woods
I find a fallen tree
and rest my jaws upon it,
watching,
this exquisite
                temptress
from the shade.
droplets glisten
on the milky white skin
of this fallen angel
       then she shakes her wings
scattering them within
  the white oaks and willows.

Raising those
    tender,
        deadly hands,
she drizzles water
    over her
        long,
            light eating
                black hair.
As it
washes over her face
    she opens her mouth
and I notice
    the meat tearing,
deadly curved fangs,
if my jaw wasn’t
   resting on this log
it would have dropped.
     White oaks and willows.

Knowing her
     for what she is
             (my other half)
I slink over
to the edge of the pond,
but as I
    touch the water
she leaps into the air
and she is just a spot
in the sky within seconds
         (so close),
leaving me in
  the white oaks and willows.
