Wish I Knew You When I Was Young
Wish I knew you when I was young -
before I had upon my wall
others’ pictures already hung -
treasures to me there in my hall.
In childhood, with you I’d have run!
Wish I knew you when I was young.
Laughing and happy, as if one,
on a swing set we’d have swung.
Later, I’d have savored your tongue
inside my mouth -the kiss of bliss!
Wish I knew you when I was young.
All that loving we had to miss!
Would I have cried bitter tears,
or as time passed, would I have sung
for joy? Would you have eased my fears?
Wish I knew you when I was young.
