WOULD NEVER PRETEND

WOULD NEVER PRETEND

Would never pretend to be okay
when I'm not.
It's me braving the heat of day,
scorching hot.

Would never pretend to forget,
when I'm confused.
It's me taking courage for what may be next
See... I was also abused.

Hands that once dealt a loving touch,
dealt blows of pain.
Painful memories of it just being too much,
to want to feel again.

Throw me a lifeline, just reel me in,
I'm suffering in shame,
Just trying to shake what was back then,
and who's truly the blame.

The startled deer within the night,
from a sound of roar,
Will flee the same in broad daylight,
and will make a door.

The sudden guard thrown up to shield
A true loving hand,
needs no scolding with cries for appeal,
to understand.

May I hold you, and you hold me,
we have each other,
Love heals than time, you see
Every son, daughter, mother.

We don't choose what we remember,
through what remains,
among the ashes and burning ember,
from torrent flames.

We soldiers have learned to brace ourselves,
In these days of new,
Making ready to fight to accept and still love,
what's tough to chew

For the greatest thing feared, isn't what I see,
In times like these,
But true loss is death for what can no longer be,
with no appease.

My legacy, all my precious loves,
not just a book,
But my fight for love beyond and above,
No matter the look.

I would never pretend to be okay,
When I shouldn't be,
But it's just me rediscovering my peace,
at Jesus' feet.
