You Are My All - For Rain and Dark Contest

And then it hits me.
My limbs fail as I slide
inexorably to the floor.
She is gone.

Cocooned within a catatonic coma,
all that was my world is contracted
into a singularity of desolation
as the abyss engulfs my creaking frame.

And one by one, my senses forget their lines
as they coalesce into a jumble
of white noise
and blank, black horizons.

The boom of a thousand drummers
pound relentlessly through my brain,
my clenched fingers pulsating in response
to this terrifying, trembling self-embrace.

My tongue curls at the metal bitterness of acrimony,
giving shape to the shadows
which creep unfettered into my undefended psyche,
shutting tight the weary windows of my eyes.

And now comes the rain.
In sodden response to my dilemma,
hissing its disapproval of my circumstance
and pounding the rooftops in rattling discord.

Tapping impatiently in judgement upon me
and gurgling its displeasure;
hammering the windows in utter contempt.
Squeezing tighter my crushing seizure.

A billion lights invade my mind as breathing ceases,
but the valley of darkness sees a sunrise
as her voice pierces the gloom -
and I am once again alive.
