You Are My Best Friend
You held my hand;
And never let go.
You walked with me down the valley,
Until darkness conquered.
You saw in me
What, to others
Was hidden
And you nurtured it.
You took the shame
Of being with me,
A selfish introvert,
A mean girl.
You looked out for me;
When times were darker,
And moments lighter,
And roads thicker.
You treated me
With love
Like I ever deserved it,
And never bragged about it.
You searched for me,
Through the thickness of the bushes.
You dragged me out of the mad,
When I was stuck.
You believed in me,
Gave me more reasons to smile,
Obliged me to work hard,
And made me who I am.
You loved me;
Like a friend, sister,
Best friend or better still
And did not turn back.
You carried me all the way;
When I was light.
And when I was heavy,
You did not abandon me.
You tolerated me
When the worst of me came out.
Forgave me,
When, your feelings I had hurt.
You took me in;
Even when I had betrayed your love
And had grown proud and arrogant;
And shaped me back.
You came into my life to stay.
I have appreciated that;
Now that I have seen it all,
In real life times.
You kept your words;
Till today,
When the favor,
I wish to return.
You love this day,
Because you have me;
And have seen that in me
Which no one has.
You have today
To take a break
And celebrate me not
But rather, you.
For you came to stay
And many more of these days
Shall we await and rejoice in
For the love of God.
