My Future Self

Line of inquiry: “looking back, I’m ashamed of what I was I’m different now, though not without flaws Each crest becomes a trough, as we move on God slowly steers soul towards a new dawn” - Unseeking Seeker My future self is a river running. Time with no end is the course I run. Things I learned from youth have either been tossed ashore or absorbed within my deep waters. Storms I have endured. Somewhere in the middle of my long life I began to transform. I grew deeper and deeper from all my experiences. I am flowing closer now to the ocean of my rebirth where I will merge with all God’s rivers in the bright dawn of his abiding love.

Sands of Time

A t f i r s t, a l a z i l y f l o w i n g r i v e r Timeless warm glow of a summer’s day In love with the world’s vibrancy Inaudible, clock ticking Safe in seeming endlessness Each day a lifetime Some wished away Years accrue Time’s grains Fall Flow Faster Sweet life full Moments precious A n t i c i p a t e d milestones fly past, too fast Children’s years wax eternal While ours accelerate quickly Scenery outside the train’s window Ever more beautiful, yet blurring, faster 7/13/16 © Thomas W. What Matters Most

What Matters Most

What matters most is obvious to me. It’s hearth and home, kin and family. Life is an hourglass and the sands of your time keep drifting down - drifting, drifting, drifting downward as you race to get in all the things you want to do! But take time to breathe in the things you love: fresh baked bread, roses, the petrichor of spring! Simple are life’s joys. Give all you love to all those you love, for that will be your legacy when your sands run out and the hourglass turns over. Sapphire Souvenirs

As
I watch
the waves crash
and unfold gems
in neon blue dust
across ivory shores
silky reflections scatter
upon moon glazed tides in cadence
and flaming twin stars whirl in circles
sprinkling magic upon Poseidon’s realm
There's a turquoise song for the healing hearts
ruffling as lyrical melodies
along idyllic crests of hope
where memories float in a
bottle of souvenirs
ferrying sapphire
swells of daydreams
that ebb in
tune to
faith

Within Her Eyes

Sun Be Gone Let Her face befriend darkness so he may not seek those lips of red that plead that beg , needy for his kiss nor feel the aching for his touch So he may not look within her eyes and find there the afterglow of his love.

Flipped Hourglass

At the appointed time (you know not when) your spirit will kiss this world goodbye. Sands of your earthly time will then have run their course. Folks will cry. Your progeny will be left behind, and words hopefully kind about you will be said. The hourglass at this time for you alone will have flipped. Dear ones will keep on their own path. With spirit eyes, you’ll view them from behind the veil where you will slip, knowing that the hourglass of those whom you so love will also soon be flipped. Pumpkin Pie Etheree - October Contest

Mum’s
Baking
Pumpkin pie.
Light crisp pastry
Silky smooth topping
Adorned with pastry leaves
Topped with swirls of white whipped cream.
I start drooling; it’s so tempting
Our spoons are poised ready to tuck in
Oh how I adore autumn harvest time!

I, Woman - Anima

I, woman, love life, so I celebrate every little joy whether spent with my friends, family, or just myself! I follow the Golden Rule, for kindness guides me; also I’ve learned that smiling is the universal language!

My Country 'Tis of Thee

When children are taught never to forget
conflicts’ lessons, to love all humans,
to honor those through history
who, selfless, wrought liberty. . .
Then will spangled dreams for
our peace be fulfilled
as God imparts
tomorrow’s
grace on
all.

The Fading Light

I watch the sun's smile gleam on the petal as it drifts beneath the Dogwood tree moving from sunlight to shadow we once burned bright like the sun shining on everyone until heaven spoke now you are gone and my light shines no more

Warmth

Sun
kiss me
your sweet rays
let your warm breath
touched upon my face
bathe me with your radiance
and witness as a smile blooms
from my eyes that glow in surprise
to my full lips longing to be sealed
by an endearing and passionate kiss!

Embrace the Day

Our days on earth are as fleeting as a shadow. Try as we might to hold onto them They slip through our fingers like hourglass sand and we grow old. Our memories fade, sight grows dim, names and faces escape our grasp. Every day we struggle to maintain our dignity. Steps grow slower, hearts grow weaker as time takes its toll. Too soon death will come calling and snatch us away. But until that day we live, we breathe, we love. Every day is a gift from God. Embrace it. 9/8/16

'love - Like a Flower'

Love
tiptoe
and appear
out of the blue,
mystery to some
but others embrace it
happiness not guaranteed
instead of enjoying the voyage,
we focus more on the conclusion
before it has a chance to bloom, it dies…

Touch Me - Dusk

warmth

fading

at sunset

cooler breezes

evoke slight goose bumps

or perhaps they are caused

by the spectral reflection

of sky colors kissing the sea

overwhelmed by many sensations

dusk evolves slowly in the April sky

I shiver, knowing Holy Saturday

pulls curtains of anguish to a close

remaining awake to see dawn

tapping Resurrection’s hope

wrapping my weary heart

sensing salvation

as Christ rises

Easter morn

love brings

joy

A Change of Heart - Etheree

Change

                      had brought

                          October

                     and you to me.

             With words from a heart

so far from my own, but

still so close when I read them,

feel them, see them, bringing changes.

I, like the leaves, am falling fast,

hoping that you, like the earth, will catch me.

Tantalizing Love

Tantalizing love, how long I’ve known you.
How often I’ve succumbed to you, but
how often I’ve resisted too -
while wanting you so badly.
I’ll never tire of you,
nor do I want to,
for you’ve been a
part of my
greatest
times.
I
have had
to learn to
control myself
when you are around.
I’m not the only one
who loves you more than I should.
You are so good when you are bad!
Oh, to breathe your scent and hold you to
my lips! Delicious food, I adore you.

Lessons Learnt In Life

She
Taught me
To love her
So completely
Inch by precious inch
Me a willing student
Not once was I discouraged
She helped me practice night and day
With her there were no l i m i t a t i o n s
I was given the f r e e d o m to express
In time she became a w i l l i ng student
She could no longer resist my touch
Her an~~~instrument~~~of pleasure
Sweet notes escaped as she moaned
Time no longer mattered
R e s i s t a n c e futile

October Flowers

Oh
Garden
Beautiful
In October,
Full of dahlias,
And huge chrysanthemums,
And bright delightful asters.
Sweet, wonderful rainbow garden ~
I really love them in the rain,
Entangled with yesterdays faded gems.

Farewell My Love

Sad

Goodbyes

Makes me cry

Without you here

I miss you so much

An empty house of stone

A lonely bed of silence

My life will never be the same

Only memories of you remain

Blessed be the day we are in Heaven

My Endless Love

Through Your Eyes

Through your eyes as a manifest grey-blue
sky my pic depicts each time I gaze
For I'm ugly but through your eyes
I'm a bright-blue morning sky
I'm bondage by your love
as I can not leave
a wee without
think of you
my love
as
we
entwined
our fingers
hearts doors opened
with glee. Through your eyes
that shine as soft sunshine
I fell into a trance.................................I
saw my zion..........................oh my love, my
divine love,................................. only you I adore,
you are my angel.....................................my eternity.

Penny For the Guy

On a cold autumn eve, playful fingers tangled, soft and shy. The smell of hot chestnuts wafted through the milling crowd, a promise of comfort and warmth. We watched, you and I, the skies explode as rockets declared their secret desires. Catherine wheels danced a dizzying response while the bang of crackerjacks echoed, spilling smoke quick into the night. "Penny for the guy?", they cried. Sparklers lit, searching lips, the most tender touch. We kissed, my heart reflected in your eyes.
